‘Unfair’ contracts: what do campaigners actually want?

Since providers announced their price rises, there’s been much talk from consumer groups about how unfair they are. But if they’re going to campaign against them, people leading these campaigns must decide specifically what to argue against. Is it prices rising mid-contract that they object to, or the fact they’re increasing by so much above inflation? Campaigning against both won’t wash.

CA SAYS Ian makes a great point. We often hear consumer champions saying ‘unfair’ contracts should be banned, but they rarely go into detail. They should explain their position more clearly, and be honest about the potential negative side effects of banning certain business practices – such as providers raising prices in other areas.
