he films of Darren Aronofsky are never comfortable but they can be relied on for one thing – actors giving performances that you never knew they had in them. We saw this with Ellen Burstyn, Mickey Rourke in , Natalie Portman in and Jennifer Lawrence in the director’s previous perplexing  Now it’s the turn of Brendan Fraser in what is quite literally the biggest role of his career and one that has won him an Oscar nomination.
