DISASTERS TURNED TRIUMPHS

JEROME THOMAS

A special memory I hold dear started in the early spring of 2021. I shared some of my designs with Jeni (from Primitive Quilts and Projects). We started talking about my submitting something for the magazine in the future. Unfortunately, the magazine was booked through the winter of 2022. So, I put the idea on the back burner. After all, I had about a year to consider a new magazine design.

By nature, I am a planner, scheduler, and organized thinker. I put a lot of contemplation into my designs. Imagine my surprise when, within that same week, Jeni reached out and said, “I need a project! A designer had to pull out. Can you get me something NEW and finished by the end of the month for the Winter 2021 issue?” Of course I said, “Yes!” How could I not?

The methodical-minded me was excited, but my circuits went haywire. How could I design, template, write instructions, and stitch a completed project in three weeks? I have always loved a challenge and eventually tapped into that mode, so I decided to breathe, dig deep, and create I sent everything off to Jeni and hoped it met the standards of her renowned publication. I barely had time to get to know my finished piece.
