SCOTLAND Tyndrum Holiday Park, Highland

I've lost count of the number of times that I've driven past this campsite when it was, until quite recently, known as Pine Trees Caravan Park. What drew me to book a stay on this occasion was its position on the West Highland Way, as well as being close to other highlights, such as Glen Coe.

Tyndrum Holiday Park sits along the busy A85 on the outskirts of the village - a popular spot for travellers breaking up their journey, usually at The Green Welly Stop.

For my first visit I was greeted by friendly staff, and was pleased to be allocated a pitch overlooking the Crom Allt stream. The West Highland Way runs on the opposite side of the Crom Allt and is accessed via a footbridge behind the reception.

All the pitches (accommodating outfits up to 10m long) are spacious hardstandings, each with their own water tap and waste point. Near the site entrance, there's a compact toilet block, laundry room and chemical waste point, while the motorhome service point is located by reception. Free WiFi is also available.

While Tyndrum isn't very big, there's still a number of dining out options available and the village is also served by both bus and train services, with two train halts nearby - Upper and Lower Tyndrum stations.

During my stay, I took full advantage of the many walking trails accessible from the site. The West Highland Way runs through the adjacent Tyndrum Community Woodland, and I also discovered a cycle path that links up with Dalrigh car park and Auchtertyre Farm, which has its own walkine trails. These trails can be extended into the hills beyond if seeking longer excursions.
