Debbie and I first travelled to Uganda in 1991 on a trip to see elephants in the DRC's Garamba National Park, taking the backroads through Zambia, Burundi and Rwanda. We never quite made it to our final destination due to muddy, treacherous roads, but we did get to see okapi and our first gorillas in the Virunga Mountains.
