Cushions are great projects to practice your quilting skills and a fancy finish to the edges can add some fun extra detail. This month, Paula shows you three different options for finishing your cushions.
HOW TO FINISH A CUSHION
ADDING BINDING TO A CUSHION
1 Square off your cushion top to the correct size. To prepare the envelope backs, cut fabric pieces that are the same width as the cushion and half the height, plus 4in. If you prefer a larger overlap, then cut the height as half, plus 6in.
2 Take one backing piece and press under ½in along one long edge. Press under ½in again to enclose the raw edge. Topstitch in place. Repeat for the second envelope piece.
3 Place your envelope pieces on the cushion top wrong sides together with the hemmed edges overlapping and all raw edges aligned. Sew around the edges of the cushion with a scant ¼in seam.
Calculate the binding required. An approximate way of calculating the binding is to calculate the following: (2 x height) + (2 x width) + 8in. This will give you enough binding
