BEHIND THE QUILT

HOUSE AND GARDEN HAVEN

“We started this quilt, which uses Tilda’s lovely spring colours, just before lockdown. The first quilt I ever made was with hexagons over papers made from old Christmas cards, so I call this ‘homage to hexagons’. I used 1in precut papers and started sewing them. A good friend, Linda Shinner-Booth, completed them for me and showed me a technique that allows you to use the papers again. Then, lockdown came; we are so lucky to have space and live in the country, which lockdown made me appreciate even more. I love the gentle colours and wanted it quilted like a wildflower meadow, so I drew the flowers and Sandy Chandler quilted it beautifully. This quilt would look equally as good in autumn or winter colours with snow on the roof and maybe quilt some of the flowers instead of appliquéing them.” – Jo Colwill
