Like it or not, the MG6 will go down in history as one of the most important MG cars of all time. It was the very last car to be assembled at the Longbridge factory in Birmingham, where it was constructed from 2011 to 2016, albeit as a CKD kit with the majority of parts imported from China.

More importantly, perhaps, it was the first all-new car from MG after the marque became part of SAIC and was therefore the precursor to the marque’s incredible resurgence, which saw it become a regular in the UK’s top 10 sellers list several times in 2022.

The 6 was actually based on the Chinese market Roewe 550 saloon, itself evolved from the Rover 75. It was designed by Anthony Williams-Kenny, a British designer and alumnus of formed MG Rover design boss Peter Stevens, who joined MG Rover Group as a Design Manager in 2000 and holds a Transport Design degree from Coventry University.
