It’s been 60 years since the first MGB was revealed to an eager public. Although its supercar looks, affordability and everyday practicality gave it instant appeal, few would have guessed that it would have gone on to sell over half a million, with a production run lasting 18 years.
Today its appeal still endures, and it has become a poster car for the whole classic scene. Any show or meeting is almost certain to have at least one B attending and garages across the country, and the world, have an example of MG’s best-seller behind their doors.
There’s good reason for the popularity. Besides those good looks, the MG is easy to work on and parts availability is excellent. There is almost nothing that can’t be bought off the shelf, from bulbs to bodyshells. Most mechanical jobs are within the scope of a competent DIYer, helped by the back-up of thousands of enthusiasts and experts eager to help share the benefit of their experience.
