IN DIE HERLAAIKAMER IN THE RELOADING ROOM PREPARATION AND FORMING OF NEW BRASS

Last month, Gregory from Randfontein was interested in the influence a cartridge case may have on the shooting performance of a rifle. In continuance of the comment on the subject, I will now focus on the preparation and forming of a new case. Too often, a reloader may think that a new cartridge case needs no preparation before being loaded, reasoning that the handloaded cartridge might well be similar to factory-loaded ammunition bought over the counter. The reasoning may be right as far as appearances are concerned, but the reloader should remember that he is a reloader and not just a mere bullet plugger. The reloader endeavours to produce a custom cartridge for his specific rifle and should then look at his reloads through a professional eye.

Those that read the comment on considerations when selecting new brass or classifying fired brass, will reflect that the cartridge case is virtually the only component
