Richard Rees lives on the border between England and Wales, in an area well-known for its agriculture. The region has one of the highest percentages of agricultural workers per head of population in the UK, and the majority of the land is given over to farming. A third of the acreage is arable, and the majority of the livestock is poultry and sheep.
“I was brought up in Gloucestershire and come from a farming background,” Richard explained. “I began helping on the farm at the age of 12, and was around tractors all the time. The first machine I drove was a Fordson Power Major.”
First taste!
However, Richard soon graduated to Massey Fergusons, and drove a 2640, when they first went on sale. “The farm was given a demonstrator to try out, and I was allowed to drive it for a couple of weeks,” he recalls. “The tractor was state-of-the-art back then, with 4WD and a modern cab. I was only 18 at the time, and thought myself very lucky to have been given such an opportunity. I loved the Massey and those early memories stayed
