Himalayan dreams

BRITT-MARIE Alm’s admiration for the skilled women artisans of Tibet and the Himalayas is evident to anyone who talks with her. Shaped by her experiences of travel in Tibet, and her encounters with the fibre producing communities of the region, the San Francisco-based designer shares her discoveries with other crafters through her ethical yarn brand, Love Fest Fibers.

Britt-Marie founded Love Fest Fibers in 2015, following a year of designing samples and developing fibre types with regional artisans in Tibet, India, Nepal as well as at home with a mill on America’s West Coast. The brand encourages traditional livelihoods and aims to continue the growth of aspiring social enterprises through a variety of interesting yarn collections. These include Meelam Pashmina, sourced from Lena Ladakh (an inspiring group of women evolving the pashmina industry), as well as Amara, which is an upcycled linen spun from remnants sourced from
