Ringing in the new year, many of us are asking ourselves how we can make positive changes to our lives – and for some, that means banishing the booze. Dry January has become increasingly popular, with over 130,000 people taking part in 2022.
But the teetotal trend is spreading past a one-month challenge. After two years in lockdown, where we saw a surge in alcohol consumption, we’re now seeing a gradual decline in drinking. This is particularly common in younger generations, with 16- to 25-year-olds, or Gen Z, now most likely to be teetotal.
