n 1915, when Los Angeles annexed Encino, this was a dusty, ten-square-mile area of fruit orchards and sheep ranches in the San Fernando Valley. Following World War II, blocks of bungalows, including this house built in 1949, went up to provide affordable housing for soldiers. Never anything fancy, this house had two bedrooms and one bath, but was set on a generous lot, as land was still cheap. It was inexpensively covered in stucco and boardand-batten siding
