TECH Q&A

RACE FIT

Can you recommend any basic training techniques to boost my fitness? I’d like to do a bit of racing next year, and, while I’m not aiming for the top step, I’d like to do OK!

Training can be a bit of a black art, with requirements varying from person to person. In the most basic sense, though, volume is key – getting the miles in on the bike really does wonders for your overall fitness. Adding in some high-intensity stuff can then back this up. You can go super-techy, with power meters, indoor training and professional coaches. If you’re serious about getting race-fit and have money to throw at the problem, this is your best shout. There are loads of in-person and online coaching options out there, and increasing numbers of products to help you out.
