SHUT IT UP

A friend gave me a 180mm brake rotor to replace the 160mm rotor I had on my bike. The power is better, but the braking is really noisy now. There’s a ‘tinging’ sound when the wheel spins, and the brake screeches like anything in the wet. The rotor is a Shimano RT54.

There are few things worse than noisy rotors! The ‘tinging’ will usually be down to one of two things. Most likely, the rotor is slightly warped or bent, or the brake calliper isn’t properly centred over it, causing it to rub on the calliper and/or pads. Pull the brake lever gently and spin the wheel. Can you still hear the sound? If so, the rotor is probably rubbing
