TECH Q&A

DIRTY FORK

I’ve just invested in a rather posh suspension fork – a RockShox ZEB Ultimate – and want to keep it in good nick. Any tips to help me keep it running smoothly?

Jez, Aylesbury

It’s always wise to protect your investments! The first port of call is keeping the fork clean. While it may be summer now, there’ll still be patches of mud around, so fitting a mudguard is a good idea – ideally one with broad ‘wings’ that drop below the fork’s dust seals (such as RRP’s ProGuard) to help keep them free of gunk.

Post-ride, make sure to clean any crud off the seals. A gentle squirt with a hose is usually enough – don’t spray too hard, because you don’t want to force water past the seals. If you put your bike upside-down while doing this, you’ll further reduce the chance of water ingress.
