95 Tedeschi 2018 There is always a meaning in a name and the “Marne 180” is no different. Marne means marl, the type of soil that this vineyard is planted and the 180 references the degree of exposure it has as well. Knowing this, you can better understand the richness, intensity and volume found in this wine. The nose is explosive with blueberry-pie filling, spiced prunes, dates and sweet baking spices. The palate is luscious, but with more earthy notes of bitter chocolate, coffee and graphite. This wine is huge and will be rewarded with some time in the cellar. (2028–2040 Tedeschi USA. . —J.P.
