So much has happened since our last visit to Surrey in early 2019. Family historians now have various top-notch digital resources created by Surrey History Centre in Woking, with records, finding aids, research guides and articles, all with the goal of “discovering, preserving, celebrating” the county’s heritage. Staff continued to ‘level up’ through the depths of the pandemic, making additions and improvements to what was already a packed resource.
Lauren Simmons, events and promotions officer at Surrey Heritage, tells us that during the periods of lockdown the team added more than 11,000 detailed summaries of wills of Surrey people that were proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, which were prepared by the “indefatigable” Cliff Webb.
