‘KAZIMIERZ WON A MEDAL FOR GALLANTRY'

D ouglas Jackson grew up in Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders, and has fond memories of exploring with his uncle Kazimierz Gardziel. “We would go on long treks across the hills to remote lochs, and fish for trout,” Douglas explains. Despite their close relationship, Kazimierz never told Douglas about his wartime service, or the act of bravery that earned him Poland's highest military honour.
