Seven’s greatest hits

hannel Seven hasn’t always been the host broadcaster of the Bathurst 1000, and indeed currently is the ‘junior’ member of a telecast partnership with Fox, Seven’s claim is dubious: CBS debuted its ‘Racevision’ in-car camera at the ’79 Daytona 500 in Benny Parsons’ Oldsmobile – nearly eight months before Peter Williamson’s Celica famously captured the ‘first’ live in-car race footage). Three years after the ’79 breakthrough and Racecam was an integral part of the coverage. And so, as part of the build up to the ’82 race Seven produced this highly detailed exploded inside view of the Seven-backed Bob Morris/John Fitzpatrick Falcon XD – which of course (and as the drawings show) highlights Seven’s on-board Racecam. Sadly there’d be no live footage beamed up from the Falcon to the Channel Seven chopper, as the car was a non-starter after Fitzpatrick shunted it during Saturday practice.
