HOW TO PACK A SUITCASE

was once a compulsive over-packer. I packed for every eventuality, dress code, weather and whim, and ended up looking ridiculous as I lugged a giant suitcase onto a coach or train for a simple weekend away. At least three-quarters of my clothing would go unworn, then need to be unpacked and put away on my return, when I least felt like doing it. I’m convinced this sense of anxiety is what causes most people to overpack. Their unordered thoughts convince them they’ve forgotten something crucial (ever spot random items like a scarf or spare sunglasses on the way out of the door, then throw them into your already-packed travel bag, to be on the safe side?).
