What do you eat on Christmas Eve?

Nordic traditions

On the day before Norsk Jul [Norwegian Yule], it is a full-on celebration. We have ribbe (pork belly with crackling), rødkål (lightly pickled and spiced red cabbage cooked until jammy), roast and boiled potatoes, roasted root vegetables with honey and a light gravy. This means I cook two full-blown Christmas meals, which is great! There’s a tradition on the 23rd in Norway to eat rice pudding with sugar and cinnamon, and fenalår (salted and cured lamb leg). There’s an almond in the pot, and whoever gets it wins the marzipan pig. Adam Parker, Norway

We make a tourtiere. It’s a French-Canadian meat pie made with ground pork and beef mixed with lots of seasoning, Amy Wilson, London
