When a vehicle range has enjoyed success and cultivated a loyal following it needs to be followed up with something even better in order to stay ahead of the competition. The Scania 110 and 140 had gained something of a cult status during the 1970s and the improved 111 and 141 of 1974 had achieved a similar following. By 1980, despite the great success of the ‘0’ and ‘1-series’, Scania needed a completely new range and that range made its UK debut in 1981 as the 82/112/142 or ‘2-series’.
