artist profile KAFFE FASSETT

Renowned for his vibrant, eye-catching designs, artist and designer Kaffe Fassett has been inspiring makers around the globe with his colourful work for over 50 years.

Kaffe, who was brought up on America’s Californian coast, displayed artistic tendencies from an early age. Indeed, at nineteen he won a scholarship to study at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in Massachusetts. A few months after starting his course, he came to the UK for a vacation – and ended up staying. “When I arrived in England in 1964 it was like stepping into a warm bath,” Kaffe tells us. “I’ve always been a romantic, attracted to the panache of the past, and I just loved being in the old world. It was even things like how fabulous old furnishings were kept and treasured as if they were friends of the family.” Although no longer at art school, Kaffe remained serious about painting. “I enjoyed
