Pains of ageing

A 70-year-old otherwise healthy woman limped into the clinic. She was reasonably fit, exercised regularly, ate mainly organic food and generally made an effort to look after her health.

However, the cumulative effect of various injuries was starting to impact on her life. She had a history of multiple sprained ankles over the years and had been dealing with these by taking glucosamine to strengthen the ligaments. This had worked quite well and the incidence was significantly less than in her youth. Unfortunately a couple of years ago she had had a major tear to the right medial ligament
