It’s not a view shared by my fellow Yorkshire scooterists but in my opinion moving the end-of-season National from Bridlington was the right thing to do. A combination of rising costs and over-commercialisation meant that it was time to move, and on the face of it Southport was the ideal venue. The North West has been underrepresented in the Nationals calendar for too long, Southport council was welcoming, licensees were on board and the town’s Floral Hall was a venue to rival the Spa.
