SAM HICKEY will be putting on a few pounds over Christmas – the hard way.
Scotland’s Commonwealth Games gold medallist at 75kgs this summer is moving up to 80kgs ahead of next year’s qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“The way I’m boxing I’m in a good position going into the new year,” said the 22-year-old from Dundee.
“The next few months are about getting up to the weight. I’m lifting more weights and eating more food – which is no problem!
“During lockdown I went up to middleweight from welterweight. I wasn’t doing as much then, but it’s harder to put on weight when you train as hard as we do in Sheffield.”
