THE OLYMPIC DREAM

THE Olympic Games have been on Lauren Mackie’s mind for years.

“For as long as I can remember, I have watched the Olympics,” said Mackie, who celebrated her 18th birthday on Christmas Day. “I would watch the gymnastics, athletics and boxing. At the time of the London Olympics, I was more into gymnastics, but I was watching Lauren Price and Karriss Artingstall [at Tokyo 2020] when I was focused on boxing.

“I always wanted to get there [to the Olympics]. Not many people can do that and it’s a massive achievement. It takes a special person to get there. It would be mind-blowing to tell people you were an Olympian.”
