It’s time for tree power

As gardeners, when we plant a tree or a shrub in our garden, we are most likely doing it for its ornamental attributes during one or more of the four seasons of the year, but these plants provide so many other essential benefits to people and wildlife, especially in urban settings. And there is no excuse for not planting them as there is a tree or shrub suitable to grow in any location, regardless of the size or space available. According to the RHS, UK domestic gardens cover 700,000 hectares – that’s equivalent to an area the size of 93,000 professional football pitches – so there is plenty of room for us to accommodate them.
