Cheaper, lighter, more powerful: NEW BATTERY IS CHARGED BY SULPHUR AND SUGAR

Electric cars have a problem – their range. And in a country like Australia, that’s a dealbreaker for many potential users. The battery is the key limitation keeping EVs local, with website cars.com rating the latest 2022 electric models mainly around the 500km range, with only a few outliers like the Tesla S at 652km and the limited-production Lucid Air Dream Edition R pushing the envelope (at some cost) to 837km. But get into a diesel-powered Toyota LandCruiser Prado and you’ve got 1500km in your tank. Many petrol cars easily top 1000km.

So imagine an electric car with a range of 1500 or even 2000km per charge – and from a battery that is cheaper, lighter, more environmentally friendly than the lithium-ion batteries that we use today not only in electric cars, but in computers, smartphones and other portable devices.
