The commission began its work in August 2017 looking into the wide ranging allegations of corruption across various sectors but including Transnet and PRASA. It was initially given 180 days to wrap it up but has since been granted a total of eight extensions by the courts. The final report is available on-line for anyone wanting to wade through hundreds of pages of tortuous legal deliberations. The conclusions do not make for pleasant reading and may result in several high ranking Transnet officials and politicians being charged although it remains to be seen how much of an appetite there is within South Africa to follow such a course given that previous attempts to address such corruption
