TICKBITE FEVER

IT’S that time of year when we start spending more time outdoors, but there’s an unwelcome creepy-crawly that makes its appearance with the warmer weather – a veritable vampire that sucks blood from its host.

Ticks are most prevalent in the warmer months, so that’s also when serious tick-borne diseases are more common and hikers, campers and farmers need to be especially vigilant.

In South Africa, it’s not uncommon to find a tick or two on your dog after a walk. Sometimes they’ll simply be in your doggie’s fur, but other times they may already have latched onto your pooch’s skin and drunk their fill by the time you spot them.
