This is where it all began for the company founded by Reginald Walter 'Dick' Maudslay in 1903 and called the Standard Motor Co Ltd. It should be noted that the name Standard was chosen for its connotations of being the standard to aim for and the fact that their cars were to be built of quality parts that were interchangeable rather than requiring fettling by hand, and only later did it morph into implying a basic specification.
