The first letter is in response to a previous editorial in MCS called A Boost for the Sport, lamenting the decline in riding on the road and what the editors would have called general enthusiasm for motorcycling. Cheap, warm, dry cars and relative prosperity meant lots of bikes were tucked away in sheds, unridden.
