WITH THE AS1 MOTOR buttoned up, it’s time to start nailing on some of the bits and pieces of the teeny, tiny terror. The iconic and singularly unique ‘tea caddy’ air filter pods were first on the list and, surprisingly, they are attached not by bolts as might be expected but by some 6mm JIS cross headed screws. I took the precaution of installing the rubber boots previously and fitting the securing springs which are only used on the AS½ models; fortunately these came back from zincing in much better condition than I dared hope for. Finally, in this area at least, came the rebuilt carbs, which received a tickle or two from some nylon bristle mops that have abrasive embedded in them. Ranging from 240 down to 600 grit, they definitely approve the appearance of diminutive Mikunis.
