This small town, previously known as Kalkfontein, is just off the A2 in the Ghanzi district.

GHANZI

This Kalahari town is the focal point of a lively farming community. Ghanzi is a good overnight stop on your way from Maun to Namibia (or the other way around), but thanks to the excellent guest farms, you might end up staying longer. The area offers different landscapes and experiences to what you’ll find elsewhere in Botswana.

This lodge is about 5km north-east of Ghanzi, on a 10 000 ha game farm. 2022 rates: camping under trees, with power, P150 (R201) per person. Twin-sleeper tent P250 (R335) per person sharing. 27 Ghanzi Trailblazers

The turn-off is 10 km south of Ghanzi on the A3. Follow the gravel road for 6 km. 2022 rates: campsite with water and electricity P120 (R161) per person. Twin chalet from P700 (R938) per night. You can sleep in a Bushman grass hut for P170 (R228) per person with bedding supplied, or P130 (R174) if you bring your own. Half-price for children under 12; free for kids under 5. This great coffee shop and restaurant will floor you with its wide selection of tasty meals. And its speciality, here in the middle of the desert? Home-made ice-cream! Try the Oreo, coffee, or pecan-and-fudge flavours.

The full Hollandia breakfast (P95/R127) includes two eggs, bacon, beef sausage and baked beans; or order a hip snack like fried mac & cheese balls (P75/R101). Super hungry? Get the pork ribs and wings, which come with chips (P160/R214).
