BUILD COST CLINIC
Glazing is one of those big-ticket items that can vary enormously, depending on what type of material you opt for, the style of window opening, and whether you opt for an industry-standard window size. uPVC windows are the cheapest option, followed by aluminium frames and then timber frames, with specially treated woods the most expensive. But there are many other factors that will affect the cost of your new windows, and I’ll take you through them so you are clear about them before approaching a window supplier.
COST OF NEW WINDOWS
As a general guide, for a single casement uPVC window measuring a standard 1,200mm x 915mm, you can expect to pay around £275. For a four-bed detached house with 15 standard windows at typical size variations the cost would be around £5,500.
Your choice of frame material will naturally impact cost as you move away from the standard uPVC offering.
Expect to pay, on average, £550-£1,250 for a new casement window Here the costs are slightly higher: £688-£1,563 (25% more than uPVC) for the same casement window This is the most expensive option. For a new casement window expect to pay: £750-£1,845 for softwood (Redwood);
