Before we dive into the tutorial, a quick word about toffee apple sticks. There are many ways to support the apple from sturdy lolly sticks, to chiselled wooden dowels and square sticks sold specifically as toffee apple sticks. For parties and gatherings, I often slip patterned straws over the sticks to make them more decorative as I have here. If you are going down this route, be mindful of two things - firstly the straw needs to fit over the stick you use and secondly, although you may be tempted, do not use the straw on its own. It simply won’t be weight bearing enough under the weight of your toffee laden apple.
