Introductions
I’m delighted to be returning for my third Block of the Month series. My previous BOMs have been more like a mystery quilt, as nobody knew what the final quilt would look like, including me! So, this time I am more organised and can reveal the whole quilt design at the start. I can also share the full fabric requirements, something readers asked for in the past.
Instead of two blocks a month, we are going to make one large 18in block. Along with sashing, this will make a 62in x 82in quilt featuring flowers in different vessels. Each month the flowers will match those blooming in your garden and they’ll be gathered or planted in a bowl, jug, planter or vase, which has been decorated by a traditional patchwork block. We will get to explore a variety of techniques including FPP and curved piecing along with needle-turn appliqué flowers and leaves. If you are not keen on hand sewing then you can choose to use raw-edge appliqué and the flowers will look equally lovely.
I have chosen a palette of soft and subtle solid fabrics with each of the patchwork vessels in neutral shades of grey, taupe, charcoal and ivory. This makes a perfect backdrop for the colourful blooms to shine and means the
