Different, and important for Ford— the Mk2 was more than just an update to the Mk1.
Four years, and the Mk1 was gone. In that short period it had turned the UK market on its head and created a best-seller for the great Blue Oval.
Ford was keen to keep on top, so a fresh successor was the obvious answer.
