For reasons unknown, Sony did not launch a new 48in OLED TV last year. Instead, 2020’s A9 was tasked with holding the fort against increasingly large ranks of rivals for almost two years.

Thankfully, relief arrived a few months ago in the form of the Sony XR-48A90K – Sony’s flagship OLED for those who don’t have the space for its new QD-OLED, whose smallest screen size is 55 inches.

The XR-48A90K is priced at £1499, notably higher than its main rivals – principally the LG OLED48C2 with which it (likely) shares a panel. So is it worth it? Oh yes. Allow us to explain.
