For reasons unknown, Sony did not launch a new 48in OLED TV last year. Instead, 2020’s A9 was tasked with holding the fort against increasingly large ranks of rivals for almost two years.
Thankfully, relief is finally at hand in the form of the Sony XR-48A90K – Sony’s flagship OLED for those who don’t have the space for its new QD-OLED, whose smallest screen size is 55 inches.
The XR-48A90K is priced at £1899, notably higher than its main rivals – principally the LG OLED48C2 with which it (likely) shares a panel. So is it worth it? Oh yes. Allow us to explain.
Design-wise, Sony has set out to keep the A90K as compact as possible. The display itself is surrounded by a black bezel that is just 8mm thick at the top and about 12mm on the sides and bottom. The low-profile stand is just 50cm wide and 23cm deep,
