High-stakes game

I THOROUGHLY enjoyed the articles on shooting, dog-walking and game pie (‘Shooting in the eye of the storm’, ‘Walk this way’ and ‘Life of game pie’, September 28). They allowed me to reminisce on the many times when my wife and I hosted the young couples who attended our son’s shoot in Wiltshire.

Our joy gradually diminished, however, when it became increasingly common for the traditional brace to be refused. Not only could the young couples not be bothered, or know how to pluck and prepare the birds, they didn’t know how to cook them. Thus, some shoots even resorted to burying the game bag.
