Letter of the week

Uncashed cheque

WHEN my father married in 1932, he received a handsome cheque from Sir Henry Royce (‘The real drive of his life’, March 15), who was, at the time, a family friend. For safe-keeping, my father put the cheque in his wallet and there it remained.

Six months later, Sir Henry (above) died and the cheque was lost. As a result, my first lesson in finance from my father was: always get cheques to the bank at once. Fortunately, we don’t need to worry about cheques any more.

James Allcock, by email P. S. The executors very kindly honoured the cheque!

The writer of the letter of the week will win a bottle of Pol Roger
