Tasting notes

AFTER reading Wines of the week (Notebook, March 29) I rushed out to Morrisons to buy ‘The Best Chardonnay’: nothing to lose at that price! Then I went through the tasting notes, which puzzled me, mentioning as they do nearly a dozen flavours and smells.

I tried them all and they were pleasant, but had little to do with the wine. I couldn’t find the ‘long finish’, which presumably means the taste left in the mouth when you’ve downed the bottle. I suggest modifying the descriptive notes in the light of these trials to ‘jolly nice Chardonnay’.
