WHAT IS METABOLISM?

Well, it happens continually, while we are resting and even when we are sleeping, and so getting your horse's metabolism to work for you is really vital. Ultimately, metabolism refers to the processes that allow the breakdown of the food a horse ingests into energy for survival.

A stable metabolism results from a delicate balance between the anabolic processes (those resulting in growth and development) and catabolism (the process of breaking down larger substances into smaller ones to release energy).

Balancing these processes is the key to a healthy horse, and it is also critical when it comes to weight control, where catabolism is essential for fat breakdown and loss. Anabolism, meanwhile, will enable the horse to maintain or even gain muscle at the same time.
