Unlike any other laptop brand, ThinkPads have always had a distinctive look. You can trace their lineage back to the first IBM ThinkPad in 1992, and Lenovo has carried on its fine tradition since it bought IBM’s PC business way back in 2005. So it’s quite something to see such a strikingly different design in the Z13 (and its big brother the Z16).

I tested the most striking version of all, with a vegan leather top rather than the standard black aluminium. Personally, I like my laptops to look like laptops, not Filofaxes, but the effect is professional rather than kitsch. The point is moot, however, as this option isn’t currently on sale in the UK, with a modest black aluminium top available instead.
