Kid's jobs are not just about payday

When I was 14, I got my first holiday job in a light-fitting factory. So I could be at work at 7.30am, I walked six blocks in the dark to catch a bus, then another 10 blocks at the other end.

Every holiday I had some sort of job: I worked in a restaurant kitchen and in a kiosk selling ice-creams and snacks, I delivered the local newspaper on foot and, when I turned 17, I worked at a suburban pub, cleaning the rooms used by travelling salesmen.
