White whiskey, unaged whiskey, moonshine, white dog – whatever you choose to call it, I am a fan. Before you turn the page, dear reader, I beg you to hear me out.

I have had my share of family moonshine, both tasty and not so tasty. However, my first experience with a commercially produced unaged rye whiskey was the moment I truly fell in love with the category of unaged whiskey. I was in an artisan farm distillery in Southwest Ohio called Indian Creek Distillery. It produces a white rye whiskey that is noticeably unique. Missy Duer, owner of Indian Creek, explained that it was a matter of history to release this whiskey unaged. “My family distilled old-fashioned fire copper whiskey for 100 years, from 1820 to 1920, on our family farm.
